Chimney or no Chimney??
Our chimney was going to be purely decorative. The framers have yet to frame it up. It will go over the top of the silver thing sticking up (that is the fireplace vent). Pros of the chimney are that it is pretty. Cons are that more corners on a roof mean more potential for leaks. What do you think?

For starters, the chimney looks too short, it should be 2 feet taller than the roof within 10 feet of it, and will then need a brace.
A properly built chase with cricket will not be a problem, you will have to get another cone flashing for the metal chimney for a flat roof, though.
I kind of like the chimney but I am not a professional home designer I just play one on TV
Tough one...The chimney would look a lot better. However, I would look at it in a practical sense. The money it would cost to build a chimney could be spent in other ways (e.g. a hot tub, a crazy 9-showerhead setup in the master bathroom, a couple sub-zero drawer fridges in your kitchen, etc.).

I like the chimney, however since you asked, I vote no. I'm with nate. Too many other cool things too spend the money on like, hey, a real fireplace?
